Cave Paintings

4LF is an electronic music project by Eric Sharkey Simpkins.  Think synths and drum machines, throw in occasional vocals, layer some guitar riffs and violà.  The debut album, Cave Paintings, is available on most digital outlets, and can be found in various Little Free Libraries strewn across his hometown of Minneapolis.  The songs were written and recorded between his basement in Powderhorn and an underground parking garage in Alicante, Spain.  Additional pro help came from Dylan Nau at Rocket Snake Studios.

Woven together by a folkster mindset, this album is an attestation from the midlife of Generation X.  “You’re Fired” is a slow release, a flag upside-down, a WTF for Mid-America.  “Guthrie and Seeger” is the machine’s reiteration of the inscriptions on Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger’s instruments.  “Rubin Slamwich” is a fourteen year old’s homage to producer Rick Rubin.  “Digital Horses” takes the banjo where it’s never wanted to go.  All 10 tracks compiled together like flannel on flannel in the information age.

In addition to making music, 4LF (Eric) is head curator with the monthly Pizza Party: Live Electronic Music (3rd Sat at Galactic Pizza).  He is an ESL teacher, partner and dad.  He also plays with Americana act Four Legg Fish.
